Before proceeding with Microsoft Teams Direct routing configuration you must procure licensing for the number of users that you plan to enable for Teams Direct Routing. You will also require temporary licensing for a dummy user attached to your SBC domain. This section outlines the minimum recommended licensing requirements for Microsoft Teams Direct Routing.
Each user who will use Microsoft Teams calling features must first have access to Microsoft Teams.
This is typically included with licenses such as:
Any Microsoft license that includes access to Microsoft Teams is generally suitable.
In addition to Microsoft Teams access, every user making or receiving phone calls through Teams must be licensed as follows:
Microsoft Teams Resource Account licenses are required for:
Call queues
Call Groups
Shared calling workflows
One Resource Account license is required for each call queue or auto attendant.
Small businesses: minimum of 5 Resource Account licenses
Larger businesses: approximately 10–20 Resource Account licenses
Microsoft Resource Account licenses are generally provided free of charge by Microsoft.
During the initial Direct Routing setup process, a temporary Microsoft user account will be required to activate and configure the SBC domain.
This temporary user will require:
A Microsoft Teams Phone Standard license
These dummy user licenses can later be reassigned to production users after setup and testing s complete or they can be cancelled. We recommend purchasing licenses only for the total number of production users required for Microsoft Teams Direct Routing or you may purchase month to month licensing only for the users you wish to test until you are ready to scale to full deployment.
